Carl Melvin BA (Hons), MSc, CFP, FPFS, ChFCSI – Director, Certified & Chartered Financial Planner and Chartered Wealth Manager

Carl is a multi award winning financial planner, and is one of an elite group of financial advisers to hold both the Certified Financial Planner licence and the Chartered Financial Planner designation. Carl is a Chartered Wealth Manager and a Certified European Financial Planner and holds a first class honours degree and a Masters degree with merit in Financial Planning.

With over 30 years experience, Carl advises high net worth families and individuals, focusing on building trust and long-term, rewarding relationships with his clients. He works closely with the team to ensure clients achieve their personal & investment objectives. The goal of positioning clients to make informed decisions and understand how to meet their personal and financial goals is a key priority.

Darren Watson FPFS - Chartered Financial Planner

With over 20 years experience as a financial planner, Darren specialises in helping clients implement investment strategies that are aligned with their objectives. He uses comprehensive financial planning to help clients articulate and prioritise their goals, and academically driven investment strategies to realise them.

As a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, Darren is an expert in assisting clients who are wishing to establish a secure financial pathway through the preparation of a financial plan and investment programme. His approach focuses on aligning financial strategies with clients' lifestyle goals, ensuring peace of mind and staying on the right path.

Darren holds multiple qualifications from the Chartered Insurance Institute as well as the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments. Committed to professional growth, he aims to obtain the prestigious Certified Financial Planner license.

Beyond finance, Darren enjoys playing the guitar and mastering culinary delights in his spare time.

Gordon Bruce DipPFS - Financial Planner

Gordon has been with us since 2023, starting as a trainee Paraplanner and working his way up to become a Financial Planner in 2025. During his time at AFP, Gordon has assisted on a variety of client situations under the valuable guidance of Carl and has managed some key projects in the areas of research and optimisation of business operations. Gordon’s dedication in assisting clients to achieve their financial goals by providing customised financial planning solutions is what makes him such an asset to the team.

Gordon holds a first class Master of Arts degree in Business Management and a Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning from the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Outside of work, he is a keen football player and enjoys quality time with his family and friends.

Anne Cain - Client Relationship Manager

Anne is the first point of contact for our clients as well as being PA to the Director. Her role provides essential administrative support across the organisation with a particular focus on client care. With a background in business and finance, Anne is the person to contact should you have any queries.

In her spare time, Anne loves spending time with her family and getting outdoors in nature.

Jill Carrick - Adviser Support Administrator / Administration Team Lead

Jill leads our administrative team, and is instrumental in the development and implementation of processes and protocols that ensure the smooth delivery of high quality service to our clients. With extensive experience as an administrative assistant in the health insurance sector, Jill holds multiple business qualifications including having undertaken financial planning exams.

Outside of the workplace, Jill enjoys golf and rugby and spending time with her friends.

Michelle Caffrey - Adviser Support Administrator / Legal Administrator

Michelle brings valuable expertise in account management from the distribution sector, complemented by her qualifications in human resource management. Her role provide vital administrative support on financial and legal matters to ensure an excellent administrative and support service is provided to our clients.

Beyond her professional commitments, Michelle enjoys taking on walking challenges, accompanied by her faithful dog, Millie.

Jaclyn O’Malley - Adviser Support Assistant

Previously to her role with us, Jaclyn worked for several years as a Claims Processor after over a decade with a major national bank. She provides valuable administrative support to our financial advisers to ensure an exceptionally efficient administrative and support service is provided to the team and to our clients.

In her spare time, Jaclyn is kept busy with her two teenage children and enjoys attending concerts.

Gillian MacDougall - Accounts Administrator

Gillian works alongside our contract accountant and provides support to the Practice Manager. With a strong background in book keeping and a degree in business management, she brings a wealth of expertise to accounts administration and office management. Her keen eye for detail makes her a valuable asset to our team.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time on her family farm with her two young children who keep her busy and entertained.

Fiona joins us after more than a decade in New Zealand, where she held management roles in leading corporate law firms. As a seasoned operational leader, she has extensive experience overseeing daily operations, providing strategic direction, and driving innovation. With a keen eye for efficiency and a creative approach to problem-solving, Fiona is a commercially focused and empathetic leader, dedicated to fostering a thriving workplace culture that empowers both the business and its people.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her children and exploring the stunning countryside of Scotland’s west coast.
